Q: This flower bloomed from a bulb that was given to me. The leaves show in the spring but the flower appears in early September. Can you help me with an identification?
A: It’s a rain lily, Zephyranthes atamasco
The name Zephyranthes comes from Zephyrus, the god of the west wind in Greek mythology. The west wind presumably brings rain that these plants enjoy.
