Q: I am doing a science report on which trees remove the most carbon. Can you help me?
A: Removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere can be done by any plant that performs photosynthesis. In fact, that’s exactly what photosynthesis is: the process of splitting carbon dioxide into carbon and oxygen. The resulting carbon is used to make a tree’s “solid matter” (trunks and leaves) and its food (sap).
The best reference I have found is an article in the online magazine Slate.
