Q: I am growing pumpkins for the very first time in my life. The vine is growing by leaps and bounds.
I’m concerned about a white mold that is covering the leaves. I tried rubbing it off with my hands and now my hands smell like mushrooms. How do I get rid of this mold?
A: Powdery mildew is a common disease of pumpkin and cantaloupe vines. Daconil will control it but you have to start protecting the leaves when the plants are twelve inches tall.
Begin a spray program now (late July)…but I can’t guarantee you’ll save the pumpkins.
