Q: I have an unusual problem. Pigeons like to roost on my roof during the day. Is there anything I can do to discourage them?
A: The pigeons are not there by accident – they are on your roof because there is food nearby. Does anyone have a large birdfeeder in the neighborhood? Ask them to keep the area underneath clean – and remind them that rats like spilled birdseed, too.
The pigeons might also be there because they have a nesting area nearby. Are there any architectural features on buildings close by that make good nest sites?
To discourage the birds you can purchase a sticky substance that can be applied to the roof peak with a caulk gun (“Roost No More” is one brand name). The birds won’t like getting their feet sticky so they’ll move …… probably to your neighbor’s roof!
