Q: Last year, my eight-year old blueberry bushes were healthy and had tons of buds. Berries, though, were very small and lacked flavor. What should I do this year?
A: Blueberries seem to respond best to slowly released nutrients. Try fertilizing with a half inch layer of cottonseed meal covering a two foot circle centered on each plant’s trunk. You could also use Milorganite or Holly-tone according to label directions. Be sure to water regularly from the time fruit forms until you harvest.
