Q: I’m a new homeowner and don’t have any experience with gardening. I sodded bermudagrass but had some bare spots. In an attempt to fix the bare spots I accidentally seeded them with fescue. Now my yard looks pretty weird with brown bermudagrass and green fescue. What is the best way to fix it?
A: One of the keys to pest control, whether insects or weeds, is to change the environment so the pest finds it inhospitable. Since bermudagrass can tolerate low mowing heights while fescue can not, one way to fix your problem is to regularly mow at 1 – 2 inches. The fescue will die out this summer when it gets hot.
