Ramps- Cultivation

Q: I’ve read a lot about ramps and would love to grow some. I do not want to pick them in the wild. Can they be cultivated in the home garden? Are they sold at farmers markets?

A: Ramps, Allium tricoccum, are a species of wild onion that is native to the north Georgia mountains. They send up wide, strap-like leaves in spring. The bulbs taste like a combination of onion and garlic. Mountain folk consume the leaves as spring greens. I don’t know if they are sold at farmers markets but you can buy the seeds at RAMP FARM
