Q: Last April we bought a seedling from the Angel Oak on St John’s Island, SC. It is planted in a clay pot and has tripled in size. If I plant it outdoors, will it survive?
A: As soon as I confidently proclaim that a certain plant will not survive in Atlanta (rhubarb, eucalyptus, sago palm, etc), I’m inundated with photos of those same plants happily growing and proving me wrong. Although a live oak won’t be happy in dire cold weather, yours may live many years and prosper before winter damages it. Plant it in a sunny spot now and see what happens.
