Q: I planted a loropetalum bush where I should not have, too close to the driveway. Is it OK to prune a loropetalum so that it stays a small bush?
A: Loropetalum cultivars range in size from the tree-form ‘Zhuzhou Fuchsia’ to the groundcover ‘Purple Pixie’. In my experience, ‘Blush’ makes a nice, controllable rounded shrub. Without knowing which cultivar you have, it’s impossible to predict its maximum size. Loropetalum can be pruned regularly without fear but my recommendation is that you replace it with a shrub that you know will meet your requirements.
