Q: I am growing vegetables in small raised bed. I want to mix blood meal with water to fertilize them. My Miracle-Gro Blood Meal label states “This product contains 12% Water Insoluble Nitrogen.” Is there another liquid organic fertilizer you would recommend?

A: Blood meal dissolves in water slowly, making it an excellent slow-release fertilizer in its dry form. If you try to mix it with water though, you’ll end up with a disgusting mess. TerraCycle (www.terracycle.net) makes a water-soluble organic fertilizer from earthworm castings.
