Q: My sloping fescue backyard is difficult to mow and looks fine as an un-mowed “meadow.” I’m seeing a few seed heads and wonder if the fescue will complete its life cycle and die out if I don’t keep it mowed. Or, is there any other concern for the health of un-mowed fescue?
A: It will eventually fill with other plants if you don’t mow occasionally. Fescue does re-seed itself pretty well but briars and other broadleaf weeds will eventually take over.
