Q: I am new to daylily gardening. After blooming, I am noticing what looks like seed pods on my plants. Are they really seed pods? I thought daylilies were propagated from rhizomes not seeds. What do I do with these pods?
A: Yes – you can plant the seed from the pods as soon as they dry and begin to split. You’ll get little seedlings this fall or next spring but they won’t be ready to bloom for a few years yet.
The flowers may look like the parent or they may be a wonderful combination of the traits of flowers that were near the parent plant.
