Q: Do toxins in Roundup harm the environment as they rapidly break down into harmless chemicals? Do you have any suggestions for herbicides that won’t harm either me, my cats, or the environment?
A: I think years of Roundup use have shown that it is effective at killing plants ….but has very low impact on the environment.
The glyphosate molecule is very polar – – it grabs onto a leaf surface or soil particle and hangs on tightly. Therefore, it doesn’t leach into groundwater and is readily broken down by sunlight, soil creatures, water and oxygen. I consider it one of the safest pesticides I use in my landscape.
