Q: I have two oakleaf hollyies that I planted in a container about 6 months ago. This spring after the new growth appeared, the edges of the new and some of the old leaves appeared burned and began dropping. I sprayed with a general insect spray.
One of the trees/shrubs seems to be doing better but the other is still dropping leaves. Is it possible to save this and what’s causing the deterioration?
A: Oakleaf holly is pretty big when mature…probably much bigger than a container any smaller than a half barrel could support, soil-moisture wise. If you planted in a small container or if there is a possibility it is holding lots of water, that could cause leaf drop.
