Q: I have a rather large stand of spider lily, Lycoris radiata. For the first time in years the bulbs are showing above the soil surface (about 20 – 25% of the bulb). Is this normal, or do I have soil erosion that I haven’t recognized? Should I cover them with more soil after they bloom?
A: It is normal for them to be right at the soil surface. I’d sprinkle a little planting soil over the bed and leave them be.
