Q: I have been asked to be the teacher advisor for a gardening/environmental group at my elementary school in Cherokee County. This is a brand new group so we need some direction. Do you have information that may help?
A: Theresa Schrum replies: “There are two organizations that I can think of right off the top of my head. The first is the Environmental Education Alliance of Georgia. This group encompasses the work of several organizations including the Outdoor Classroom Council.
The second group, based out of the State Botanical Garden in Athens is devoted to school programs for the education and establishment of gardens for rare and endangered native plants. It’s called the Georgia Endangered Plant Stewardship Network (GEPSN). Either of these groups can provide you with seminars, workshops, educational materials and a network of educators who can assist you.
