Taiwan Ficus retusa

Question
Hello, My taiwan ficus is rapidly shedding leaves like raindrops.  If I don't water it they still drop off.  Quite concerned I don't understand what it needs.  It's little twigs have grown about 3 inches, they are quite 'leggy' now, but sparse new leaves are forming and quite pale green.  I bought it 2 months ago from a garden centre but the instructions are quite general.  It seems, since I brought it home it has had a growing spurt and no longer looks full and lush but leggy and sparce.  Should I prune it? stop watering in? feed it?  re-pot it?  It's about 3 ft high with a strong thick twisted trunk.  It used to have a crown but that's gone now.  On the sales ticket it says it was nurtured for 10 years.  So what's a person to do?

Answer
Hi Suzi,

Definitely stop fertilizing your bonsai. you never want to feed a weak and unhealthy tree. Is your tree getting enough light? If possible, try pacing your tree outdoors in part-sun. Ficus tree are known to lose their leaves, but i do not have enough information to troubleshoot your bonsai.

I would recommend posting your questions and pictures of your bonsai on www.Learning2Bonsai.com. There will be someone on the community that can answer your questions and help you get your bonsai back to perfect health.
