QuestionI recently received a bonsai plant kit for Christmas, containing within it the seeds, soil, pot, gravel, and sheers to take care of it. I'm uneasy about planting it because I'm not sure of the best conditions to plant it in. I live in the mountains of North Carolina in a very dry atmosphere. Also, where I'm living currently doesn't provide that much light except during the afternoon through one window. If you have any tips on how I should plant the bonsai successfully, I'd be really appreciative. Thank you, Mary Johnston
AnswerYou need to find a book on bonsai as soon as possible. Put the seeds in the fridge and wait till spring to plant them in pots or a flat outdoors. Most trees grown as bonsai will not do well indoors, the ones that do need expert attention to care and cultivation to survive. Again; get a book and find out as much about what you are doing as possible. Most books tell you how to plant seeds and you have time to do some reading. I know this sounds like a cop out or a dodge but the elements of what you are asking are too long and complecated to detail on this site. Many of them are dependant on the species of tree involved, and not all of them are treated the same.
