QuestionHi, I'm having my yard cleared out of 18 big overgrown pines and I will like to turn it in to a Japannese garden with plenty of bonsai, pines? How ever I will like for my bonsai to be or stand four to six feet. Is this even posible? Can I even grow bonsai out doors in New England? Thanks in advance for your good answer.
AnswerHi Carlos:
You can grow bonsai outdoors in New England if you grow the right kinds of trees. However I am thinking from your question you are not reall talking about bonsai but yard trees trained to look like bonsai. If this is the case these are not bonsai. The definition of bonsai is a tree growing in a pot. You can train yard grown trees to look like bonsai trees, the Japanese have been doing this for two-thousand years. You should get hold of some reading material on Japanese gardening. There are some of the books that tell you how to do this using bamboo stakes and string to train the branches. It is a lengthy process and takes many years, a process too long to cover in a forum such as this one.
