AnswerHi,
First, I would like to tell you to get a good book on the subject, there are many books on it.One I could recomend is "BONSAI- Its Art, Science, History and Philosophy" by Deborah R. Koreshoff.Published by Boolarong Publications,Brisbane Australia.
This book deals with plants that could be grown in warmer climates.
To give you a more precise answer on how to maintain your plant,I should know its name (botanical preferably).
Basically, your plant should never be allowed to dry completly. You should avoid direct sunlight from eleven in the morning until three o'clock in the afternoon. That's when infra- red rays are more intense, and in your neck of the woods, it could just cook your plant. The wires that you see on the plant are to be checked periodicaly, so that they don't cut into the bark and scar it.They should be removed as soon as you see that the branch has hardened.
The best place for a bonsai would be outdoors, under a screen that would filter the light during the hours mentioned above. If you don't have that, a sunny, well ventilated window could do it.
If you have a shelf, lets say three meters in lenght, and one meter wide, and you place it in a North- South position,(like the needle in a compass)you could place the screen above it, like a little roof, and depending on how high and how wide the screen, you could protect you your plant exactly on those hours!
Bonsai should be fed with natural organic fertilizer. (follow the instructions on the label)
In order to keep your plant in shape, you shoud also prune it.I would not attempt to do it before reading about it!
Maybe for the beginning, it would be better to bring it back to the dealer for that.
Good Luck!
