Question
QUESTION: Recently i had a Hydranga Tree added to my yard.  It gets full sun.  I noticed that a few leaves turned yellow.  Then the next day more turned.  Is it alright?  How does the Tree grow, how big, how tall.  I'm ready to take it out and plant something else.  It is bothering me that it may not be doing well.

ANSWER: Hi Barbara, It will get upwards of 8 feet when mature, and is very easy to care for, the yellowing leaves could be an indication of too much water; if it has been recently planted it would require adequate irrigation initially, but if your soil is clay, it could be holding too much water , hence the stress and leaf yellowing. Let me know if it is getting a lot of water and if it is getting sufficient Sun, albeit it really likes a spell of shade sometime during the day. Nick

QUESTION: Hi...Well i didn't think it was getting enough water because it was only planted 2 weeks ago and the landscaper said water every 4 days but it rained a little and we didn't have to water that much.  Some of the green leaves have some black around the outside of them as well.  I'm not sure what the soil is, i don't think it's clay and it is getting lots of sun.  Thanks for answering so quickly.

...Try administering a Fungidcide (Daconil is a good one...), it may be a Fungal problem and Daconil will take care of it if it is, and won't do any harm if it isn't; the new growth will emerge unaffected if that is the case, the old leaves may continue to yellow for awhile but I would be more attentive to the new growth, to be sure that it is healthy.
