QuestionI have 3 contianers of mixed annuals with a Salvia Mystic Spires in each. The salvias in the 22 inch containers are doing well. The leaves on the salvia in the 24 inch pot are yellowing. It's blooming well. None of the other plants in that containers are showing the same signs - geraniums, argyranthemum, Techno heat dark blue lobelia. I was wondering if I'd overwatered so I'm letting the pot dry out. Yesterday I applied iron chelate to the salvia. What am I doing wrong?
AnswerHi Mary , different annuals need different amounts of irrigation, it sounds like your Salvia may be receiving too much, but thats the problem you run into, when too many different types of annuals are placed adjacent to one another in a container. See if you can isolate the amount of water it receives , while not neglecting the others. I can't emphasize enough the importance of not putting too many annuals in close proximity in a container, for they may start out with plenty of room, but eventually become crowded, and problems develop.
