Question
Hi-I planted gardenias with hydrangeas in a window box.  I have fed them
muracid and put orchid bark on the top to retain moisture.  The plants are doing
well,  however, the gardenias have many buds, but are not blooming. They
receive morning sun and indirect light after 9 o'clock.  Could you suggest what
the problem might be?  Thank you.

Hi Jane, be careful when planting in window boxes, for they have limited space for root development; many people tend to overcrowd or place plants that are far too expansive for such a small contained area. The plants you have decided to plant are not really good candidates for a window box, for they are meant for in ground planting and will develop into a bush with quite a large root system. I am inclined to think that you will notice them beginning to fail after initial growth due to the cramped space being allotted. Nick
