QuestionHello Bakerplanter,
I grow only pelargoniums (aka geraniums)- I have a hundred or more
different cultivars that I want to identify. Most of them were gifted me by a
wonderful woman who collected cultivars and sold them wholesale for many
years..I have a bunch of books also- but there are thousands of cultivars. I
have just recently begun selling my plants at local farm markets. If you have
any thoughts on how I might go about identifying some of them, it would be
very appreciaterd.
many thanks,
Carolina
AnswerIt is very difficult. Because looking at pictures and descriptions can't give you the exact identification. That is done with comparing DNA. This is expensive and probably not something you would want to do just to sell a few plants. Commercial nurseries use this method, but they are selling enough plants to afford such methods.
I would suggest just labeling them by color or leaf design, or type, and leave it at that.
