avacoda trees

Question
I grew my trees from seed they were doing real good but they have gotten tall some sems are thick some thin, growth on top and middle to ground. I live in Phoenix AZ weather is getting hot have been watering every other day leaves starting to turn only on lower sections have sprayed for bugs what do I need to do?  Thanks

Answer
Have you pruned or thinned the trees. It sounds like the trees are stressing if the lower leaves are turning. A light thinning of the limbs, and removing the thin limbs. Leave the ones that are healthy and growing well.
When you water, make sure you give enough water for a TREE. Let it run until it covers the roots all the way down to the bottom. That means leaving the water on the tree for a long time. Let it soak in and then come back and water again. This is especially important if it is hot. If you only water the surface the tree roots are still very dry. The surface water will evaporate quickly if it is hot, and will not do the tree any good. I prefer to get a soaking sprinkler that waters in a circle. Set it on low and let it soak under the tree. The first time  let it water a good long time, then less and less as the soil is deeply soaked. This should get the trees stronger, and healthier.
