QuestionI live in an apartment in Los Angeles, but have a large sunny concrete area outside my back porch that would be perfect for a container garden. I want to grow herbs and vegetables. However, I am a busy self-employed professional and I feel my time is better served growing my business than trying to figure out which plants to grow in which pots, and then searching where to buy the pots and and hauling them home and then obtaining seeds and figuring out how to plant them, etc. I'd rather pay someone else to get the garden started for me. But when I look online, the only thing I come up with are landscape designers who assume I live in a mansion and who can design a gorgeous garden for my estate. How do I go about finding someone to help me grow edibles in pots, not design a lavish garden?
AnswerI would put an ad in the newspaper, or craigslist.org, or your local "Pennysaver" newspaper. Explain in the ad what you want, and how much you would pay.
Call your local "Master gardeners". They may have someone who has the free time to add your request to their collection. They would have the expert knowledge to make them grow, as well.
Perhaps the local garden club would know of someone.
Once you start looking around, you will probably find many people who would help you.
