QuestionHelp my pine tree doesn't like me. Over the summer i bought a Norfolk pine that had 5 trunks at a flea market. 2 trunks have died. The remaining trunks look horrible the needles are drying out. I water it every 2 days from the bottom. I am thinking i should repot it but i heard these pine trees are sensitive.
AnswerFirst, stop watering every two days from the bottom.
Only water when the soil is dry. When you water, water from the top. Moisten the soil thoroughly. Then let it dry again. You may only have to water once a month in the winter. Never leave it sitting in a tray of water. Let the water drain threw, then empty all of the water in the tray.
Very bright light. These trees do not do well in low light. If you don't have bright light in your house, then you may need to buy a "grow light" to place above it.
Cool temperature, and high humidity. The dry air created by the furnace may be fine for us, but the tree is not at all happy with it. When the needles dry out, they turn brown and fall off. If you have it near a heat vent, or draft, it will die even faster.
These are the most suited trees for containers, but they are still trees, and should be cared for much like the ones outside. They will freeze if you put them in cold weather, so they must be brought in the house to survive. But their native climate is tropical, and so you must duplicate the jungle tropics in your house to make them happiest.
I hope this helps you understand why your tree is not doing well.
