impatiens in the house

Question
Can you tell me if inpatients will do ok in the house in a pot for the winter? How can I Keep it alive through the winter?

Answer
There are some varieties of impatiens that winter better then others. I have an impatiens that I have kept going for many years in my greenhouse. It gets good light and cool temperatures (between 40 and 50 degrees) all winter. I only water it when it looks dry.

You are probably referring to Busy Lizzy. They make great annuals, but for wintering over in the house, they tend to get ugly and lanky. The leaves get small and thin, and the stems get thick and long. They are still alive, but unattractive. Much of the problem is light, humidity, and temperature. They need bright light(no direct sun), high humidity, and cool temperatures. Only water when dry.
If you can produce these conditions in your home, then it is worth a try.
