QuestionWe planted strawberry plants in a planter jar and have beautiful healthy plants with lots of runners and very green leaves and great growth. the problem is no strawberries and no blossoms. We're going to save the plants in the jar over the winter and try to bring them back next Spring but can't figure out the lack of berries.
AnswerThere are usually three things that cause healthy plants to not bloom.
1.The nutrient balance is off in the soil.
2.Too little light.
3.Plants not mature enough.
If you want plants to bloom, give the plants a bloom booster, by fertilizing with a formula that the first number (Nitrogen) is 0. The other two numbers (Phosphorous, and Potassium) are 10-10 or 15-15, or the middle number is the highest number.
High nitrogen is great for making the plants healthy and green, but it is the phosphorous that makes it bloom, and potassium that makes the roots grow.
Strawberries need full sun to bloom and produce berries.
By next spring the plants will be mature enough produce the fruit you are looking for.
So, no nitrogen, more light, and patience will get you the berries you are looking for.
