QuestionI received several house plants after Mother's funeral, and would like to know what ones I could put outside for the summer? I know there are pothos, dragon tree, peace lily, and others. Someone told me the peace lily could survive in Indiana outside in winter? Thanks
AnswerI have not had good luck putting my Pothos out side in the summer. The variegation on the leaves increases in the light, but they also get brown edges, and yellow leaves. So, it is one of the few plants I leave in the house. The other plants on the other hand do very well in a shaded area out side. Check the soil often. Don't let them go too long with out water. When you water, get the soil completely wet. Then let it dry, before watering again.
Watch the night temperature. If it gets below 45 degrees, bring them in. Protect them from wind, and sun.
I am assuming you are in the southern part of Indiana. Even there, I would not chance putting a non hardy house plant out side in the winter. Peace lilies have been grown in the gardens of Tropical locations. But I would not think of Indiana as Tropical.
