QuestionIs it possible to plant a clemantis in a container, put it on a deck in Chicago, bring it into the garage for winter and take it out next spring?
Susan
AnswerYes, I have many. They do not get as big, as those in soil. But, they will grow, and bloom. Give them plenty of light in the winter, and they will bloom all winter. Mine bloom in the greenhouse in January. Make sure you have a good support for the stem. Don't water as often in the winter, as you do in the summer, Don't fertilize in the winter. They will do better if you repot them in fresh soil in the early spring, then two month later, give them a 0-5-5 fertilizer. Most important, always shade the pot from the sun. The soil must be cool for them to do well. The plant on the other hand likes plenty of sun. I simply put other container plants around the clematis.
