cocktail trees/zone 5

Question
Can a cocktail tree be planted in a container?

Answer
Yes, these trees will grow in a container. I did a little research on the care, and the problems with these trees. It seems the common killer is too much heat. So perhaps it would be good to give it good sun light during most days, but, when the temperature gets extreme, move it to a cooler, protected area in the shade, until it cools down again. The other thing I noticed is complaints about the trees becoming uneven. Different parts grow at different rates, and parts die, or become damaged. So what looks like an attractive tree in the beginning, will become a very oddly shaped tree.
You will need to take care of the tree just like you would any normal fruit tree. Careful pruning, spraying for insects, and disease, and water, and fertilizer. Because, they are in containers, and the water and fertilizer will drain out, you will need to do these two things more often then if they were in the ground.
Spring time it is critical that you protect the tender buds from sudden spring freezing. When there is a threat of cold temperatures, put it in the garage, for a while until it is safe to move it back outside.
If you haven't figured it out, putting wheels on the container will make it a lot easier to manage all of this moving around. The container will be too heavy to carry.
