QuestionI just received for Mothers Day an Italiann Heather plant. It did not come with any instructions and I would like to plant it outside. I love in Southern Ohio. ANy suggestions would be great. I just do not know if it is meant for outside, and if so, where to plant. Full Sun? Etc.
AnswerYour plant is a Mediterranean plant. It likes mild temperatures, acid soil, good drainage,(no clay), and full sun. It does not like to be too wet, or too dry, too hot, or too cold.
I would keep it in a container, and place it out side in the summer, with protection from the hot afternoon sun, and bring it in to a sunny window in the winter. These are not easy plants to keep alive. They often turn brown and die with no apparent reason. It is usually slow and painful. Painful for you, because you are trying everything you can think of, to save it, and nothing works.
But they are beautiful plants when they bloom, so they are worth having. Enjoy it while you can.
