QuestionOver the summer my plant was outside.Just these last couple of weeks I brought the plant inside, and now the plant stems are turning black as night. What's wrong with my plant and how can I help it so it don't die all together.
AnswerCut the black off immediately. Leave as much green as you can. DO NOT WATER! Your plant is rotting. Geraniums need to go dormant in the winter. That means very little light, and withholding water until it is bone dry. It is also good to prune back all of the old stems and just leave the new growth at the base. Place them in a cool place, around 50 to 60 degrees. A garage or basement is good. Don't let them get below 40 degrees. Part of the rotting may be caused by the plant getting too cold before you brought it in.
So the best thing you can do for it right now, is clean it up, and give it a rest. In the spring it will start to put on new growth. When you see that, then gradually give it some water, and more light. When it is warm enough at night, ( above 45 degrees) then you can put it outside.
When it has put on full growth, give it a good fertilizer to get it blooming.
