QuestionI found at least 7 bird of paradise plants in the trunk of a tropical tree loosly known as a directional something? Without knowing that they were there, the bottoms of them were completlely cut off when i was cutting the tree trunk. My question is will they grow roots back if i put them in a bucket of water for a while? I hate to loose them. Thanks, Teri
AnswerIf there is a "node" from which roots are started, then putting them in water, or planting medium, will work. Roots don't grow from bare stem. To find the node, look for a swelling on the stem, it usually looks like a ring around the stem. Cut just below the ring. The roots will grow from there. If there are large leaves, cut them back to about 1/2 to 1/3 size, so that they are not pulling too much energy from the roots. New leaves will grow when the roots develop.
