Question -
Can a container grown norkfork pine be transplanted out side in Indiana?

Thank You

Answer -
No, it is too cold for this tender tree, in Indiana. The best temperature for the Norfolk Island Pine is, 65 degrees. Try to keep it above 45 degrees to avoid problems. So, don't hesitate to bring it in when the weather report says cold nights.
Extremes in temperature, either hot or cold should be avoided.
Give your tree plenty of bright light this winter, preferably within four feet of a large window. Keep it away from a furnace vent. Place evaporating water around it for humidity. Don't over water. Let the soil dry, before watering.

Answer
It could be a type of Cedar or Hemlock, or other feather, draping, appearing tree. It would be hard to identify without seeing it. You might stop, some time, and take a cutting off of it, and take it to a nursery, or the local master gardeners, to identify it.
I doubt very much that it is a Norfork Pine. They are native to the south pacific, and not hardy in our cold temperatures. So, I may not be able to tell you what the tree is, that you are seeing on your road, I am able to tell you what it is not, because of the climate in Indiana.
If you find out, what it is, I would be interested to know.
