AnswerSounds like CURLY TOP. The foliage of seedlings infected with curly top yellows, curls, and twists, and the seedlings usually die. Leaflets of older plants that become infected twist and roll upward, exposing their undersides. The foliage becomes stiff and leathery, and the entire plant assumes a dull yellow appearance. Branches and stems are abnormally erect. leaf stalks bend downward and the veins in the leaflets turn purple. Plant growth is stunted, and either no fruit sets, or the fruit that is produced ripens prematurely. If this sounds like what you are seeing with you plant, then I am sorry, but Curly top can not be cured. Remove and destroy the infected
plant. Don't plant another plant in that same soil.
Prevent getting Curly top by growing resistant varieties, like Owyhee, and Payette. Also control whiteflies, and leaf hoppers, which can transmit the disease.
Aphids will also cause the leaves to curl. If you see a sticky residue on the leaves, and tiny critters, then that is your problem. Buy some insecticidle soap, like Safersoap, and spray every 2 to 3 days.
Psyllid Yellows is another leaf curl problem. Psyllid live in the soil and carry the disease to the plant. Spraying garlic on the soil weekly helps.
I would watch your plant. If the new growth looks healthy and it begins to bloom and set fruit, then you have solved the problem. But if the plant begins to decline, or does nothing, then you have learned that more preventative care will need to be done next year. The first step is to find out what the plant you buy, is resistant to. The best plants have a long list of things that have be bred into them that resist problems like this. They eliminate much of the disappointment you are now experiencing.
