QuestionI planted a Bonaza Patio Dwarf Peach Tree about three weeks ago, and the little peaches and leaves are falling off. I would like to know what could be causing this, and whether or not the fruits are edible.
Thank you,
Judy Bush
AnswerYes the fruit is edible.
These trees require moist soil, but not wet. Keep them moist, all of the time. Don't let it dry out, and don't over water. The result of either of these conditions, will cause what you are seeing now.
Moving a tree to a different enviroment will cause a temperary adjustment and stress.
The tree that is "pot bound" (Needs to be repoted) will show the same reaction because it can't get suffient water because of the compact roots.
Over fertilizing will cause this reaction, as well.
Look closely at the soil. That is where most problems of this sort begin. The whole root ball needs to have moisture. Not just the top. If you need to, pull the plant out of the container and check the lower soil area, to see what is wrong.
