Question
i live in north jersey and would like to know the most fragrant plants for containers for my deck i want to figureout the plants first then design the planters/flower boxes around them
since this will be a yearly process

The most fragrent shrub I know is the Daphne. It would be nice in a large container with Alyssum and Verbena. All three would be scented. Violas and French Marigolds With Nicotiana.  Dianthus with dwarf Sweet Pea and Tubor Rose. There are many herbs that give fragrance to the container, like Lavender, Rosemary, Thyme,and Sage.
I just smell the plants in the nursery, then when I find one I like, I buy it. But the list I have here, are plants I smell when I am doing planting for my landscape clients. There are of course many more. Many spring bulbs have fragrance. Like Hyacinth, Jonquil, Paper Whites and Tulips.
