plant questions

Question
Hi, thanks in advance. I have two questions if you don't mind. First, regarding SANSEVERIA, or snake plant. Mine is the tall, spiked, yellow-rimmed one. I've had it about two years. One by one the large blades are becoming dry, flopping over and dying. I'm afraid to water it too much, as I know they don't like lots of water. What can I do to save it? It sits in a large pot in dimly lit corner. I am one of those people who can grow challenging plants like African violets and roses, yet I tend to kill snake plants and spider plants ... honestly! Also, another question is on the herb ROSEMARY. I purchased a small 3-inch plant last week, the very last one at the nursery. It is my very favorite herb, and I need to know how to care for it successfully. I can find little info on its care. I am willing to plant it in a large pot, small pot, plant it outside, whatever it needs to thrive. I absolutely love rosemary, and I want it to survive so I can keep it healthy and use it for cooking. Thanks again for taking my long and wordy questions. PS: I live in southern N.Carolina, which is zone 7, I think.

Answer
Patricia,

Watering could be the problem with your snake plant.  I always recommend to give it the finger when it comes to watering.  What I mean is to puch your index finger into the soil around the plant.  If it feels moist, do not water.  If it is dry, water.  The pot should have drainage holes to allow excess water to drain out.

Put your rosemary into a small pot and put in your kitchen window.  It should do well over the winter, infact in zone 7 you may be able to leave the plant outside except in freezing weather.

Good luck

Gary
