QuestionI plan to grow herbs, ivy and flowers on a covered patio that get sun from 7:00-10:30 only. What kind of containers and drainage system do you recommend?
AnswerI recommend large plastic containers. Don't use white. It does not hold up. Plastic is light, and durable, and retains the moisture. Get the best bagged potting soil you can afford. Drainage is very important. Don't use soil from the ground in your containers.
As for your plants, the ivy will probably do well, but the other plants will need more then 3 1/2 hours of sun to do well. 6 hours of sun would be much better, and 8 better still.
