QuestionHi, my yard gets sun all day long I cannot enjoy the yard due to so much sun though it is good for the flowers. I have an umbrella but that is not enough coverage my yard gets the sun from east to west. What kind of tree can I put in a container that will not be to big but yet give enough shade.
AnswerBecause of their size, there aren't many trees that will do well in containers, by the time they reach a large mature size. Even the smaller trees will need a very large container evenually. You'll need to trim the roots and repot as it grows, or move up to a larger pot. And at some point your tree may need to be planted in the ground in order to thrive. I would not plant the tree in the heat. Early spring or fall, when tempertures are cool, will help the tree to slowly, adjust to the heat of summer...Keep well watered until they are well establish.
My first thought, was to suggest a Maple. They are not the best choice for a full sun. They tend to burn in hot sun.
For hot areas, try Crape Myrtle, Chinese Hackberry, or Fruitless Olive. Maybe Strawberry tree, Sweet Bay, Eastern Redbud, or Magnolia Loebneri, or Magnolia Soulangiana.
Fringe tree, Weeping Cherry, Japanese Tree Lilac, Photinia, or Holly.
