Flowers on deck

Question
Hello,
The afternoon and evening sun hits my deck.  I love to put lots of flowers on the deck (it faces the highway).  What are some flowers that will live and be pretty in the full sun?

Thanks...

Answer
Many plants do not flower as well if the temperature gets above 90 degrees or 100 degrees. When the temperature cools down again, they will continue to put on flowers.
If you want flowers all summer in your sunny area, plant annuals. They will only stay beautiful one summer, but they will give more continuous bloom then the perennial that would come back year after year, but only bloom for a short time.
If your deck is shaded in the morning, it is not FULL sun, but it is the hottest half of the day. Therefore, the plants you choose will need to tollerate the heat and the shade.
Some good annuals for the sun are: Marigold, Zinnia, Alyssium, Geranium, Petunia, Blanket Flower, Nasturtium,
Portulaca, and snapdragon (biannual).
When the temperature gets hot, you will need to make sure there is plenty of water every morning. Don't get water on the plants. (It will cause the sun to burn the plant.) If you keep them well watered, they will be able to take the heat. DO NOT FERTILIZE when the temperature is above 90 degrees. Otherwise give the plants a light feeding every two weeks.
Be sure to give the plants fresh potting soil every year.
