QuestionHello,
I bought a Hypericum Kalmianum about a week ago from a local nursery. It had bright yellow flowers and the buds were yellow as well.
A week later about half the leaves are yellow and the flowers are brown, even the buds have turned the same color brown.
What am I doing wrong? This is my first container plant and I don't want to kill it.
I thought St. Johnswort plants were sturdy.
I haven't transplanted it to a bigger container. It is receiving shade until about mid day and then western sunlight.
It has been receiving water on a daily basis because of the sprinklers and I watered it twice on top of that. The soil on top felt dry.
Am I over watering it? Should I cut the brown flowers off?
Thank you for any advise you can give me, I thought it would do better than a house plant I have a tendency to kill them rather fast.

Answersounds like you are watering it too often. it would explain your bad luck w/indoor houseplants also. get it away from the sprinklers where you can control the watering. most plants will do best in morning sunlite(afternoon may be too hot during summer months). always remove dead flowers and branches(leaves too) when they appear.
try this method of watering. water by weight. put a saucer under the pot when watering. let it sit in the excess water for 5-10 minutes and then pour off the excess. pick up(or lean) the pot. it should feel heavy. don't water again until it feels considerably lighter in weight(usually about once every 5-14 days depending on pot size, sunlite, temps, etc.). do not let it go too dry(wilt). apply fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
good luck
