QuestionHello, Last year I grew some (pole bean) plants with blue flowers that grew up string.I dont think they did as well as they should have.It may be that it was too sunny or maybe the soil was prepared wrong.I used a planter with two or three inches of sand on the bottom with about five inches of potting soil on top.I noticed that when I removed the roots from the soil and the end of the year the roots did not enter the sand. How could I improve last years plant growth? Thank you
Answer It was not too sunny. They love sun. I would guess that it was your soil. This time don't use any sand. Put the soil clear to the bottom. Use a good mix of potting soil with fertilizer and Steer manure and Peat moss. Don't plant your seed too deep. Watch the water closely. Let the soil dry on the surface before adding more water. But don't let them get too dry. Give them liquid fertilizer when the temperature is below 90? They should do fine.
