QuestionHi,
I have a new bed that I wish to grow roses in, what would be best to put in the soil to make it ready for the new roses?
Thanks
Emma
Answerpretty much, the best additive for any soil is composted organic matter. you can buy it or make it yourself(takes about 6 months to decompose it yourself). garden centers sell it as peat humus, compost, and a few other names. you can also use baled peat moss. mix it into your existing soil by turning over the soil by hand or using a tiller.
after you plant the roses use a high organic rose food sprinkled on the ground after planting-no need to work it into the ground. i always recommend espoma products such as rosetone for roses, hollytone for evergreens and other acic soil loving plants, treetone for deciduous shade trees and shrubs, etc. there are other good products available at your local garden center. while there quis them on rosecare in your area. i'm in southern NJ.
