Questioni recently spreaded grass seeds throughout my lawn. i live in newport news, va an according to the literature being disseminated, the tall fescue is idea for this region. i would like you advice on this product and adv and disadv of utilizing liquid and pelletizied fertilizers.
AnswerTall fescue is fine for the Norfolk area.
The easiest and best way to fertilize a lawn in your area is to buy a bag of pre-formualted lawn fertilizer, such as Scott's Turfbuilder.
Spread 3-4 lbs per 1000 sq feet lawn area (e.g. if you have 5000 sq feet lawn area, use about 5 x 4 = 20 lbs max).
Spread lawn fertilizer in late spring, early fall and late fall (May, September, and November). Avoid fertilizing during hot summer days and try to wait in spring until May to fertilize.
I prefer not to use the fertilizer which comes mixed with herbicides (weedkillers) and insecticides (pesticides). Just straight fertilizer.
A drop spreader (cheap plastic bucket on wheels; $9.95 - $19.95 most places) is economical and easy to use.
I would not suggest using liquid fertilizers on lawns. While it is possible, it is more difficult to apply, last a very short period (need reapplication frequently) and pelleted fertilizers are so much easier to apply and use.
