QuestionHi.
I have dug up a small wild Spruce Tree and also a small wild White Burch tree for planting on my yard. The soil that they came out from was very moist soil (near a ditch) I'd say 1/2 clay and 1/2 sandy type soil. I might have damaged some of the roots(not the main root) in the process and put them in a pot with some of the same soil that was around their natural soil.
My questions are:
1. If everything is OK (the trees don't dry up) after lets say a month am I ok to plan them in my yard? should I wait longer?
2. Are there any type of fertilizers that will promote root growth and improve my chances that these tree will survive?
3. As these were wild trees they have grown crooked in a slant. Any tips to make them grow straigh... I just figured I would plan them in a slant so they look straight.
thanks in advance,
Alex
Answer1. plant them in the yard now. the sooner the better.
2. visit a few local garden centers/nurseries to find someone knowledgeable on fertilizers. buy your products from them & they should be glad to help educate you on what to use in your area. i like espoma brand granular fertilizers like hollytone for evergreens, treetone for trees, rosetone for roses, etc.
3. you're right. plant them so they look straight.
good luck
