QuestionI purchased a home on 1.5 acres that is on a well/septic system. My well goes down approximately 420 feet. What kind(s) of fertilizer can I use on my lawn that won't get into my well system? Also, I've got some areas that have poison ivy that I'd like to get rid of. Again, is there anything I can use on this without affecting my well?
Answermost any fertilizer(scotts TB, vigaro, ringer, milorganite, etc.) should be OK provided they are applied as per directions. apply no more than 3-5 times per year at the recommended dose. keep away from using a lot of turf weed control products to protect the water supply. a minimal of weed control products if applied properly should present no problem for a well that deep.
spray the poison ivy foliage w/roundup weed control available at your local garden center/nursery. have them explain its' use and apply according to the labeled directions to get good results.
