rose arrangements, how many and how tall?

Question
I am making arrangements in 6 inch cylinder vases and am wondering how many roses i will need to buy and, if making a dome-shaped arrangement, how long should i cut the stems.  I don't want to waste too many roses with trial and error, and thought you might have some advice, or rough idea that i can start with. Thanks
Susan

Answer
Dear Susan - There are 2 ways to make a dome arrangement in a cylinder case.  the first is to create a hand tied dome bouquet and then cut the stems level so that the dome of roses sits slightly above the rim of the vase.
The easier way is to cut a piece of flower foam to fit inside the vase right up to the rim and then build up your dome.  Start with the central flower standing upright and then push in other roses to form concentric circles so that the flowers are slightly lower.  You will need to disguise the foam if your vases are clear glass.
The number of flowers that you will need will depend on the size of the roses - I would say about 25 medium sized would give you a full effect.
Best wishes
Jane
